January 7th Queens Park

January 7th Queens Park
Our house in Winton is still occupied by the previous physician so we have to hang out in Invercargill for an extra day.  After breakfast we all headed out for a walk to Queens Park.  We stopped at a playground on the way there and admired the cool water tower.
Queens Park is absolutely amazing!  There are fountains, rose gardens, cool playgrounds, a water park, rock gardens, ponds, an aviary, a small zoo, a golf course, a museum etc. all for free and all within this impressive park.  The kids had an absolute blast!  One of the most interesting things about the park was the restrooms aka toilets.  They were mechanical with electronic doors complete with lights to tell you the occupancy status, automatic music, a voice to tell you instructions (including reminders to wash hands)!

Invercargill brick water tower.

Statue of the "World's Fastest Indian."  Burt Munro is from the Southland of NZ and was the man who broke several land speed records.  Anthony Hopkins played him in the movie.

Entrance to Queens Park

Rose garden.

More rose garden.
Tara with Peter Pan and Tink!

Cool pond.

Gabe and Tara travel down one of the many paths in the park.  It is hard to describe how big this place
is and how many different things there are to do (they even have a fitness path with lifting machines).

The kids found one of the three playgrounds in Queens Park.

Gabriel climbs the caterpillar thing.

The kids are swinging on this centrifuge like thing.  You can hold on and spin around,
or you can sit in the rings and be pushed around.

Gabe hangs out with a NZ falcon statue in front of a fountain commemorating
the Queen's visit.

The aviary within the park.

Pond and dragon statue.

Winter garden (in a greenhouse).

OK, I crumbled to pressure from the kids and included a picture of their beloved electronic
bathroom (it is also self cleaning).

In Queens Park you have to have a castle.  There is a very tall turret with the Queen on it just out of
the picture.
