Monday February 6th Waitangi Day

Monday February 6th Waitangi Day
From Wikipedia: “Waitangi Day commemorates a significant day in the history of New Zealand. It is a public holiday held each year on 6 February to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand's founding document, on that date in 1840.  The Treaty made New Zealand a part of the British Empire, guaranteed Māori rights to their land and gave Māori the rights of British subjects. There are differences between the Māori and English language versions of the Treaty, and virtually since 1840 this has led to debate over exactly what was agreed to at Waitangi.”
Waitangi Day meant no school and no work this Monday!  After hanging out on Saturday and Sunday, we took the morning of Waitangi to drive to Riverton and took several walks including Mores and Taramea.  Although we weren’t rained on, clouds and fog obscured the mountain and ocean views.  The rest of the day was quite nice so we rode bikes and hung out.
Tara enjoyed here t-shirt and care package from the Taylors.  Thanks!

The kids are enjoying school here.  Their favorite things about Winton School include: tea time!, lots of outside time, and being able to take their shoes off in class!  The laid back attitude, what they call the “kiwi way,” is quite refreshing for the kids.
