Paradise!

Today was our first full day in Honolulu.  Dad walked to a grocery store and we ate breakfast before all walking to Waikiki Beach.  We were pleasantly surprised at how few people were at the beach.

The first part of the beach we were at had surfers beyond a break wall; behind the break wall was coral and lots of fish.  We were able to see a ton of tropical looking fish diving between cracks and crevices in the wall.

Gabe, Tara and Dad went wave surfing and it was a lot of fun.  The water was surprisingly cool given the air temperature.

Tara's foot prints in the sand!

After lunch we walked further down the beach.  It was definitely more rocky but we still had fun.  Tara and Gabe did some wave surfing-letting their bodies float in the shallow water and rush in and out with the waves.
Not so much missing the cold!

Tara and Mom in front of Diamond Head!

Banyan trees are amazing.  They have little vine like projections (aerial roots) that head to the ground and then become roots and supports.

They have these Aloha ambassadors roaming the streets and one spontaneously came up to us and had us posing for pictures!
